Individuals who are transgender/transsexual may elect to have voice and communication therapy to help them obtain their desired voice in a safe way. Treatment provides voice and communication training by addressing pitch, intonation, resonance, and nonverbal communication.
Individuals who wish to masculinize or feminize their voice may be evaluated by a team of graduate student clinicians under direct supervision of a certified instructor. One or two sessions may be scheduled, followed by an information-sharing session and a complete written report.
Focus of treatment is on changing pitch, improving resonance, utilizing appropriate intonation patterns and articulation, modifying vocabulary and grammar, and incorporating relevant pragmatics. Therapy sessions are tailored to the specific needs of each client.
