Profile:

Carlos Irizarry-Pérez (Nye) received a bachelor degree from Western Washington University in Spanish and Linguistics. He received a master’s degree in Spanish Linguistics from Penn State University and taught college Spanish before pursuing a master’s degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from the University of Washington. After that, Carlos worked in the public schools as a bilingual SLP in Washington State for a number of years before returning to complete a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses primarily on speech sound disorders in bilingual children; specifically, he is interested in how to facilitate generalization of speech skills across languages.  Carlos also researches clinical instruction and how to prepare pre-service clinicians for bilingual work.
