Dr. Cathy Binger, in collaboration with Dr. Jennifer Kent-Walsh of the University of Central Florida, have launched a new AACInfo web site (, intended to be a resource for anyone interested in augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). AAC refers to the use of anything other than speech to communicate: gestures, sign language, picture symbols, and computerized voice output devices.

Binger and Kent-Walsh study ways to improve outcomes for people who use AAC. Specifically, their research focuses on helping to ensure that children with severe speech impairments meet their full communicative potential - and of course, when children can communicate more effectively, they can achieve better educational and social outcomes as well.
